Tell us a bit about yourself! (family, education, place you live, your hobbies)Hi everyone. I’m Lori and I live in the Ottawa area in Canada with my husband and two teenagers. I enjoy gardening, oil painting, reading, scrapbooking and photography. My favorite books are the Outlander series by Diana Gabaldon.

When did you start designing?

I started designing in the spring of 2010 when I was taking the Safari Lounge beginner course online here at Digidesignresort. Then I completed the intermediate class and haven’t stopped since then. At the time I was trying to decide what to do as my children were getting older, I had taken a graphic design course at a local college and wanted to put my hobbies to use. Digital scrapbook design was the perfect answer for me.

How do you describe your style?

My style is elegant shab since I use many flowers from my gardenbut always add a touch of shabby chic wherever I can. I like to use bright and fun colors and often fill my kits with a riot of blooms.

What Camera do you have?

I use a Canon Power Shot SX210IS for most of my designing because it takes wonderful close up shots but is still small enough to tuck into my pocket so I can always be ready to photograph anything that catches my eye.

What program do you use for designing?

I use Photoshop CS5 for my designing. This is my favorite software of all time; I use it every day.

How much time you spend designing every week?

I spend about 20-30 hours a week designing and would spend even more time if I could squeeze it in.

Do you design for a living or do you see it as a hobby?

Digital designing is a hobby for me. I thoroughly enjoy it and since it is so much fun I could never consider it to be work. It is amazing to put a kit together and see others use that kit to create layouts of their own cherished memories.

What additional tools do you use to design (graphic tablet, drawing stuff, etc.)?

I sometimes use Adobe Illustrator for drawing since you have more options for doing this here than you do in Photoshop. One day I would love to use a tablet but for now I either hand draw and scan or use the pen tool in an Adobe program.

Hello everyone…. I hope you’re all having a great Saturday, oh what lazy Summer for me when it comes to scrapbooking… I think this is the first time in my life that I can’t wait for Summer to be over, hard to believe that I was always saying that Summer was my favorite season.. no more!… really appreciate the cooler weather now LOL….ah well.. as time seems to fly .. the cooler weather will be here soon… Summers are long here in the South of Turkey though…have been spending times with my children and have been pinning away at the Pinterest site, so inspiring! Hello, I hope you’re all enjoying the Summer. It sure is hot and humid here in Mersin, Turkey… well I won’t be around for a few days as I am going on a short vacation… but before leaving I want to bring a few things to your attention.

PascaleA is not just an “old” friend from back of 2007 when I launched my first scrapbooking site but also a fabulous designer. Here you learn a bit more about her:

Tell us a bit about yourself! (family, education, place you live, your hobbies)

Hello, I am Pascale, I am Belgian and live in the South of Turkey in a coastal city called Mersin with my two teen-aged children and our sweet kitty cat Gingy. We are living right on the beach which I so love, I love long barefoot walks on the beach, or just sitting staring at the horizon enjoying the smell, the air and the sound of the waves. My favorite time of year here is April as then all the Lemon trees here next to us, between the sea and our apartment are in bloom then and their essence is so very awesome. Summer is wonderful too but it gets real hot and humid here during the month of August. I love the evenings in Summer most… then we get to smell the wonderful Jasmine flowers.. OH I can go on and on about the flowers here… what is also so neat here is that we have the Taurus mountains here very close-by.. which is especially nice to escape to when it gets so hot here, so much cooler up there… I love to read, craft, listen to music and wander around historical sites.

When did you start designing?

I started designing back in 2007, before that I had been researching my familytree and so got into restoring old family photos, when I discovered digital scrapbooking it didn’t took long to get totally into that .However I had to take a break like for about 2 years for several reasons, but I m back! Not never let go again, I hope.

How do you describe your style?

I find this a very hard question, hm…not sure really.

What Camera do you have?

I so wish to get much more in to photography, wish I had a much better camera. I bought a Samsung ES28 not very long ago and it will have to do for now.. till better times I’d say.

What program do you use for designing?

For the longest time I used PS7 and was and actually would still be happy with it, but decided 6 months back or so that it was time to upgrade and went to CS5. I do not regret, love all the wonderful new features!

How much time you spend designing every week?

I really do not know exactly how much.. I know though that if I could I would be designing all day and most probably part of the night too.. but of course other things need to get done too… let me just say, many hours… each day..

Do you design for a living or do you see it as a hobby?

I always seen it as a hobby but would love it to become for a living and I am working hard on achieving this, I know it is possible….everything is possible as long as you really want it and give it your all.

What additional tools do you use to design (graphic tablet, drawing stuff, etc.)?

I own a graphic tablet which I should really start using more

- 3 photo, you have to frame at least two of them, you could frame the third one too but  I think it would be nice if you blended it in the top paper or use extracted ( see how to do this in GIMP HERE.. up to you…

Blending a photo in GIMP

Have your photo layer on top of your paper and simply play with the  layer’s mode and opacity.

You could erase a part of the picture if you want ( here you can play with your opacity too)

Duplicate your layers so you can use more than one layer mode, below I used a combination of Burn, Overlay and Screen.

you can also adjust color by going to Colors and play with the options there. It all rely depends on what effect you want to get, the photo  and paper you use.

Hello everyone,

A new week starting and a new challenge.  I hope you join! ( you have 3 days to post your first step, when the second step is posted, on July 21 st. you can’t join anymore)

Check out the previous Challenges to get an idea what they are about. Progressive Challenge 1 ,  Progressive Challenge 2 and this is the new one; Progressive Challenge 3, all at the ScrapbookFlair site..

Reminder of the requirements.

- Use at least 50% of Digidesingresort designers products. Purchased or freebies. Subscribe to the DDR Newsletter and get the Natural Breeze Collab Kit for free. Subscribe to my newsletter on blog here and get a mini kit for free and check out My Shop.

- Give credit for all you use. Designers name, kit’s name, store’s name.
- Post your pages before the next step gets posted.

- Check out other participants pages, comment and vote on them.

STEP 1
- 3 papers , place them centered on top of eachother  (each one slightly smaller than the previous one. Border the top one with ribbons or lace or if you wish you can just stroke them ( add a border, see below)

Here in short how to stroke ( your paper or anything else) on Gimp and Photoshop.

I’ll show you first in GIMP ( where it is called Add Border)

go Filter/Decor/Add Border.

In the pop-up box change the color and size of your border, click OK.

and voilà there is your border.

Here is how you stroke something in Photoshop

Click at the Fx (add a layer style)at the bottom of your layers palette, click Stroke

Adjust the setting to your liking in the Layer Style Pop-up box. ( Positing, color, size etc..)

and here is your border.

Gimp Tutorial – Photo and Text Merge

Learn how to have part of your photo as a word or text.

Open your Gimp program and bring in the photo you want to use, duplicate it (always a good idea) Turn of the lower layer by clicking on the eye next to it on the left.  Right click on the top layer and click Add Alpha Channel.

Now you are going to add text, click on the A in your toolbox and pick a fat bold font, I picked Popular Ltd Bold.

Now hold your left mouse button down and drag a rectangle where you want your text to appear.

Type your word or text in your Gimp Text Editor box.

Click Close and right click on your layer,  click on Discard Text Information, to turn your text layer into a normal layer.

Click again on your layer this time click Alpha To Selection.

Now go to your Toolbox and click on the  Scale Tool. Set your setting  under Scale – Transform to Layer by clicking on the little red square.  Hold your left mouse button and drag your text so it covers the rectangle. Click Scale.

Turn off your layer and activate your Background Copy Layer by clicking on it.

Click now on your Rectangle Select Tool in your Toolbox, make sure the settings are set to Add to current Selection: Rectangle -Select – then second from left (see below) and while holding your left mouse button down , drag, starting in the left upper corner  down to where you meet the selected text.

Now you go Edit/ Copy Visible.

Then again Edit/ but this time  Paste As/ New Layer.

Turn your background cope layer off and there you have it!

Now go Select/ None to dismiss the selection.

Save your photo as it is now ready to use in one or more of your scrapbooking projects.  To save your photo go to File/ Save As, browse for the folder you want to save it in, click on the little cross next to Select File Type ( by Extension) at the bottom and pick the PNG extension to preserve the transparency .
